Hello all! I realize that I have posted this coin in the past, most likely as a new purchase. The other day I was re-visiting this one and noticed what seems to be a large die crack on the bottom of the reverse. Can anyone confirm or if this is at all un common? *bonus blue toning*

Out of the 4 I currently have, 1 has a die crack at around 9:00 on the reverse. So I'm going to guess it's not that unusual?

Thanks kuh_85! If it's nothing special I won't worry about making note of it. Although this ones at the 5-6 o clock position.

I think it's probably fairly common. I picked up an MS one last week and it has one more in the 5 o'clock area. Not quite the same spot. Sorry if the picture quality isn't great, I had to zoom in. :)

At the time the Province of Canada coinage was struck The Royal Mint was using the old Boulton steam screw presses and the effect of certain steel contaminants (like arsenic) on die life was not understood. Both led to dies that were inclined to crack. Die cracks can be amusing to look at and are a convenient way to identify specific dies, but only the most spectacular cracks have any chance of affecting value.
