Absolutely cleaned.Just look at the scrubbing hairlines lines .
Brasso is a likely culprit . Used in conjunction with a brush of some sort .

Canadian coins are bronze, not copper. I have a number of Canadian cents with "brass" toning, some of it natural, some of intentional... we usually get about 3-4 1859 examples posted per year, with optimistic folks who think they have the real deal...

This is not an unusual color shade for this coin.

I've heard cleaned copper/bronze described as 'salmon coloured'...

As I've said before, concerning 1859's, there are 3-4 cleaning agents in everyone's home, under the sink or in the laundry, that will turn coinage-bronze into something resembling brass in color. This coin has been "scrubbed" heavily and my first choice is Brasso, as mentioned above.
