I thought going through the 5,000 pennies my dad had was a lot! I'm sure 98% of these are 2000-newer dates BUT one of the issues is apparently someone (they think the employer) covered the coins in what appears to be used motor oil.

Very interesting. The thing that is the worst, is the disrespect to the employee. Not only was paying in change time consuming to redeem in usable amounts, but the owner publicly went on a rant of how bad an employee he was.
