The MM looks like it could be doubled but there is no listing for it. So, I was thinking it could be a partially broken post. Is that possible?

It is a regular San Francisco mint mark, not seeing anything or match any known RPM.

Where you're referring to is the top section of the bottom serif of the S being partially missing, it is just a worn mint mark punch.

I have seen D & S mint marks exhibit certain artifact that appeared different, but its more due to the aging of the punch itself.
