Could somebody give me their opinions on what these "indicator numbers" really mean?

http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/cdnccmi.asp

I mean, for the love of Pete, ICG has topped the list for about 95% of the time. I do respect ICG (especially in circulated grades and grades BELOW MS68), but they always are at the top of this ranking.

Why is that? and, What to these rankings REALLY mean?

Since these numbers are comparisons to Greysheet Bid levels, the most important question in my mind is, where does Greysheet come up with their Bid levels? I mean, are the CDN people actually sampling a sufficient percentage of the market to come up with realistic pricing for each coin in each grade, every month? One coin each in two grades, each in ten issues does not constitute an accurate sample to me. If the chosen coins happen to be an MS64 and an MS65, the resulting bid from a knowledgeable dealer will certainly not reflect what he'd bid on an MS64 and an MS65.

You get what I mean, or am I being typically obtuse?

Super dave,I must be obtuse because I dont get IT.It would seem to me that these figures are based on totally random samplings of an extremely small amount of coins. How then can these figures carry any weight? Pleease explain.Any one else out there that doesn't get it,and those who do pleassse help me out.

Mind you, I am only guessing but, it would appear that they are only indicators of 'trends' and the only problem with their rankings is the sample makes it impossible to grade to hundredths of a percent with any kind of accuracy. That would be rediculus with this small of a population count.

So I guess what they are are very loose trends, and that is all!
