It is very cool !! ALOT of silver all the dimes except 2 are silver the earliest rosie is a 1950.. 2 mercs 1918 and 1943. none of the quarters are 90% 1966-67 the halves are 65-68. all the lincolns are 1973. 2 indians 1897(cleaned) 1 franklin and 1 walking liberty(cleaned)..1 v nickle 1907, 3 buffalos, 1 1937 and 1 1925..3 or 4 war nickles (cleaned)..the Peace dollar in the center 1923 looks very nice. But...It came with a note from the congressmans wife that stated it was given to him from his staff in the 70's..he served from 1955-1974 and he was an asscoiate of both Jack Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. as far as coin value..probably just melt value..as a conversation piece it.. gets alot..and I'm still wondering if the note maybe will someday make it worth something..Some people like political memorabilia and I guess this would tie right in.. Sorry I've mentioned this thing soo often this will be the last post mentioning it..I can hear all of you dozing off..... Edited by grovey 03/03/2005 10:52 pm

Don't apologize at all. This is a great conversation piece. Are you going to actually use it? I can't believe your wife would be very thrilled at that prospect.

No It's going to stay in the box..I toyed with idea os hanging it up w/brackets in the "computer room/office" I have other coolectible stuff there but then I realized how upset I would be if it would fall and break on the tile floor.. so I opted for the box.

If you paste the url into your post, highlight it, and click on the picture icon (4th button from the right). It should embed the picture in the post. Please make sure that the picture is not wider than 8" or it will push the thread wide.

Out of curiosity, what's the face value of the embedded coins?
I'm still trying to decide if I would be distracted while doing Nature's Work on top of something like that and forget my main reason for being there. Script MT Bold font, Size 3; would print very nicely.

Hang it on the wall of your living room. Show off your pride for the world to see. Of course, a few nights of sleeping on the couch may be worth it.

Spoken like one who has at least been threatened with same It is a fun item grovey. I think its is neat that you have the letter from the congressman's wife, but don't count on it appreciating for your retirement. Most American's can't name their senators, much less their congressmen. I think it would take a "famous" name to make the authentication of prior ownership make it much more valuable. Even some of the JFK household stuff that got auctioned off didn't go for big bucks when it went up for auction recently http://search.sothebys.com/search/c...Family+HomesIt does make it more fun! personally, I'd use it! That must have been what his staff intended. Have you searched for info about him on the web? Don

That's awesome! I'd figure out a way to display it, if I were you. Buy your wife some roses- she'll forgive you! Not everyone can say that they have a toilet seat with coins in it! Rachel [:p]

That's neat alright. It must be a sign of a true coin collector..! I wonder if I installed one if my visitors would get the message I like coin collection.

I am surprised that the pictures came out as well as they did through the acrylic. Nice job!! I think you should find a way to display it, though. What a waste to keep it in a box and it would be a great conversation piece.
