Hi all, I have taken the task of selling a coin collection from the estate of my sister's late husband. Although I have much camera experience and have been selling on ebay for several years, I have no experience grading, listing or selling coins. This frightens me alot since this collection is my sister's and I don't want her to be disappointed with my results. I feel I need to cram as much information as I can in a short period of time, in order to pull this off. What I need most is to decide whether to have the coins graded and slabbed prior to selling or just to list and hope for the best. Also what are the opinions of the forum on where to sell. Coin shows look attractive but I would be out of my element. And, what about security? There are those out there that could and would rip one off. Any sharing of info on the subjects would be greatly appreciated. Don

Sorry, but what you ask for takes time. Maybe you could find a coin club locally that will help you. And buy the Red Book for prices.

Hi GOLDON while the RedBook contains a price list it is seldom an accurate reflection of the market . since you are ebay savy , I would suggest a search of completed auctions or you can watch the auctions end with the watch this Item feature to give you an Idea of what certian coins are selling for on ebay . to see the difference between raw and certified and ebay and other auction venues , check out Heritage and teletrade auctions for realised prices . as for grading we can help with that to a degree , if you can post clear large pictures in our grading practice forum for opinions on the coins . welcome to the forum !

Goldon if you stay around a little while and learn about some of the coins you have you may find you want to start the hobby. It can be very addicting and after you have 50 quality post you can list coins here on the site for sale or trade. If nothing else you will learn tons of information here as we have some very advanced collectors.

Goldon, If you have some digital camera experience, you could start with a few "group" shots and post them here. We'd be happy to help! Be sure to include a brief description with each photo. Good Luck!

Thanks, I'm groping in the dark. Don't even know how to navigate the forums yet. I will post some pics on the practice forum---if I can find it. OOPS, couldn't upload my first pic. It was a .jpg and over 90kb. I guess I need to know what file extensions are uploadable and what else a newbe might stumble over.
Thanks Don

You can upload to photobucket or flicker and just link the pics if that is easier.

to the Community, GOLDON! If you want to help your sister properly, then my best advice to you is patience! Hang around here awhile and you will arm yourself with knowledge. Once we are better acquainted, you will find this a great place to sell some of those coins without the fees associated with other sites. Of course, most of us hope you become addicted to the hobby.

GOLDON to CCF. Sorry for your loss. Hopefully you are not in a hurry to sell. HAST MAKES WASTE. If your coins are US, you can purchase a ' Red Book' and a photograding book. Also need magnifier. They will put you in the ball park. If you have questions, post pics here and I'm sure you will find the information that you require.
