I love the early half eagle Capped busts.

I bought one on ebay, from a seller that named the Breen types, etc.,
& said that she only collected high quality coins.

I could not get this coin graded because I had been told it had been cleaned by a dealer.

Dec. 2008, when PCGS offered the Genuine service, I sent it in to be graded Genuine.
I got the coin back on Jan. 26th as a counterfeit.

This ebayer user is golddustpl.

I bought another 1799 $5 coin from her, but it also had scratches on it, not seen in the ebay ad, & I had to fight to get my money back.

I bought this 1806 April, 2007.

Since then I have seen her sell many Capped Busts on ebay.

They are in a slab with the Year, Denomination & Type, added in.

I am curious to know if any one else has sent in her $5 capped busts to be graded?

I now believe that the 1799 $5 that she sent me was also a counterfeit.

I am sure that the Fraud Dept. of the Justice Dept., is going to want to see a list of all of the coins she has sold on ebay.

I paid over $4400 for this coin, & she used the Post Office to defraud.
She has not answered my 4 emails on the subject.

Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem with <<Personal Info Removed By Staff>>.

Regards

Bonnie

While I do not have experience with this seller and I mean no disrespect to you whatsoever, "Why on Earth anyone would buy a $4,400 coin off ebay that is not slabbed by a major TPG is beyond my comprehension".

The "homemade" slabs you describe are worthless and these coins are actually raw. That said; Contact ebay immediately and detail the information you have provided to us.

Here is the seller's feedback history:

I did not know that this coin was a fraud.
I actually drove it over to Dana Point to show it to a dealer.
His employee told me that it had been cleaned, & his boss was not interested.

Normally when there is a counterfeit coin on ebay, someone alerts the fraud dept.
She quoted the type sets from Breen, etc.

The point is that a counterfeit is meant to defraud someone.

I am not going to let this coin be flushed down the toilet.

If she does not want to refund my money, I will take the necessary legal actions.

I have seen many of her coins in these slabs.

I guess that the legal authorities will want to check, with the other buyers, of these Capped Busts.

Can we see some pics of the coin to verify it?

Why?

I had to fight to get my money back.
On seller's ebay page - "There is a 7 day money back guarantee on all my coins. I will refund money in full less shipping/handling/insurance for all my raw coins."

Got pics of that one too?

Without doing research to see if the coin was legit first?

Could you explain how please?

It's Far past her return policy so I don't blame her. Did you give her a reason to disregard your e-mails?

Welcome to the forum Bonnie. I will make note first that all members should be civilized so that this topic does not get out of control.

Having said that, Bonnie, with no disrepect meant towards you, you should stop buying on ebay until you:

1. Learn the series of coins you want to collect like the back of your hand.
2. Learn how to protect yourself from less than honest ebay sellers.
3. Learn how to do a little more research.

These items are not meant to be a personal attack towards you, but rather to help you. $4400 is ALOT of money to spend on any coin, let alone one not certified by a top tier grading company. If pictures in the listing do not show you enough detail to prove something is a forgery, ask for more. Unless you've dealt successfully with this person in the past, it is a huge chance to take. If I was going to buy raw, I would surely have a source to authenticate immediately before the return policy runs out. To buy from the same person again just makes no sense to me. I'm sorry for your loss, but unfortunately I believe that the buyer needs to take most of the blame themselves in situations like this. ebay is and always will be a "buyers beware" scenario.

I do hope you stick around and learn some things with us. That is what this site is all about.

Welcome to our forums. If you collect coins, I hope you stick around because this is a great place to learn.
Secondly, I agree with the others--this level of coin buying is very risky as uncertified without specialized knowledge.
And we're talking rather valuable coins here, which are obviously hard to establish grade/authenticity/value by internet pics alone.
Even if we had photos of your coin to discuss, I doubt we could do more than compare some details with certified coins--and reach a tentative conclusion at best.
Good luck with a favorable resolution to your purchases.
