Which is why I don't care for the scope pictures, they cut through the patina and misrepresent the coin. The goal of coin pictures should be to represent how a coin looks in hand.

I am closer to getting the correct color I tried this morning, the tips you have been giving me. I have experimented with the lights. I have not posted those pictures. What you are doing is an art that you have mastered.

What seems very easy to you (and it is) isn't as easy as it seems , you have mastered it . I find advanced trigonometry fairly easy but it's unfair for me to expect someone to pick it up right away. You have never done that to me by the way. I thought some of my pictures were fairly clear although not the correct color yet. Please hang with me, I will get it. However we need to focus on the super bowl for the next 5 days. "who dat" oh it's "who de" come on Joe

Second set of pics needs an increase in lighting.

Best advice I can give is keep taking pictures and examine them as you adjust the angle and intensity of the lighting. Shoot for lighting that shows the luster, but does not drown out the surfaces.

Then examine the photos, and ask yourself, does this photo represent the coin as it looks in hand. I find lately that rather than covering the light source, I get better results with it being further away so that it diffuses naturally and isn't so direct.

Typically I just use my 8x Bausch and Lomb hastings loupe held over the camera lense on my Galaxy note20 cell phone and get sufficient results so long as I can keep the phone steady.

I usually just place the coin above my knee and adjust the angle or turn my desk chair to adjust lighting till the color is accurate..note the denim background.

Just try different things till you find what works for you.

Notice how detailed the surfaces are in the photo, as you would see it in hand through a loupe.

That 50D picture looks representative of how the coin probably looks in hand. But holding a loupe over the camera lens is far too difficult and usually results in poor pics IMO.
