I am in progress of putting together a bust half date set. All coins so far are in XF-AU condition, with some lusterous, original pieces. I have been storing them for the past few months in an older Dansco that holds 2x2s. The pages have the properties of containing PVC, so I am worried about storing the coins in them.

I am thinking airtites, but there is no great way to display them. You also can't see the edge lettering using airtites. I can use 2x2s, but those don't protect from the elements very well. I like the Dansco because you can easily view the coins. The diameters of the bust halves vary so they may slide around in a Dansco page with slides. My next idea is to use 2x2s and store them in a slide box (I bought a couple of these from a LCS).

So my question to you: What is a good, long-term way to store higher grade coins, without harming the coins and having them easy to view at a moments notice?

Kind of depends on how much you want to display those. Myself, I'd not want to show off coins like that. I'd put them in 2x2's and file them away. Just who are you trying to show them off too?

Ding ding ding!

I enjoy the presentation of the standard Dansco album, how it can be easily viewed. That would be opposed to having them stashed in a box or air tite tube which they would be hard to view as a complete set. But I would rather have the coins protected than easily viewed. This won't be a short term storage method. Think 50+ years.

I keep my PCGS graded Ikes in a Lighthouse box. I must pull them one by one to view, usually just having one Ike out a time.

I could lay them all out if I desire since the set is relatively small (like the CBHD). This may or may not work for you, and I have to admit I rarely do this.

Thankfully I still have the original set in a Dansco album, which is great for when that "macro view" desire hits me.

I think I will use 2x2's in the slide box. They won't clash against each other, and I can write each coin's info on the holder. If I get some extremely nice coins in the future, I will transfer the set into airtites and probably store them all in airtite tubes.

The coins are stored in a large safe indoors, so I think environmental conditions won't affect the coins too much in 2x2's.

I use Air-tites, but I see your point on not being able to view the edge. I started using the adhesive style 2x2's several years ago and they seem to be working as well, plus they are much cheaper. Yet this doesn't address the edge dilemma. It does however, keep to the display area of your concerns and saves space if stored in album style pages. High grade Bust Halves, impressive undertaking!
