I am worried about the spots. I am told PCGS hates spots! BadThad fill me in please and of course all my other gracious forum members, need Help. If you read this, I will be able to tell you very soon about your grading skills. Not to keep you in suspense. I am waiting on coins to get back from PCGS. Just about everyone who helped was slightly conservative or dead on. I cracked out all my third tier graded coins( early wheat) and submitted raw. PCGS bumped up 5 out of ten - 3 stayed the same, one was cleaned and one dropped.

Is that a faint scratch running from Abe's forehead to the S in TRUST?

It would have been a real nice coin but too many distractions .

Looks like a faint line of toning on the obv. I would be tempted to see if the black spot on the reverse rim could be at least partially removed with VC or isopropanol.

66 BadThad is that safe to use before submitting? I have no clue about what can and can't be done. I have had that exact line on several different coins from different years. Maybe the minting gurus can solve this. I left one of my hairs on the coin to give you an idea of how big these marks are. The coin itself is unremarkable with luster. BadThad will the TPG's dock you for die cracks such as these. As for removing the spots I would love for you to give it a try if you are willing? I have a few coins that are almost mark free but look dirty would the VC help that?

I have a few coins that are almost mark free but look dirty would the VC help that? VC, acetone, xylene, etc. are all safe to use. Every coin I've ever submitted was rinsed with acetone or xylene and some conserved with VC. Die cracks do not count against the grade unless they extremely distracting which is rare. The only spot I'm talking about is on the reverse. Depending on the composition of whatever it is, it might come right off with a qtip dipped in isopropanol or even VC. In my experience, the straight line toning mark on the obverse cannot be removed without damaging the coin. VC will remove very light toning and crud on a coin. It also tends to brighten BU coins but should be rinsed off with water and acetone after use.

The die crack is bigger than I thought! It runs past the ear down the back and down the front to below the bowtie! From the ear it travels across the face over the eye. it is also intersected by another running down from middle of top of head down to mouth. I like those cracks!

I also like the cracks however that can be interpreted differently LOL

If you look in my photo library I submitted to PCGS a 57 D wheatie I think within the last 6 months, has a major die crack on the forehead, a die clash under the chin, filled in 5 or 9, and it straight graded MS 66.

Are those three gashes on the reverse? The chatter on the shoulder is common with the 57-d and is not considered PMD or so I am told and have seen in photos from HA.COM
