Dear friends,
I want to share the latest purchase of S. Severus Denarius Emesa Mint . RIC IV 427; RSC 677
The coin is worn and is has cracked flan.
I found only two speciments in OCRE http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.....391?lang=en
Obverse : IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II- Head of Septimius Severus, laureate, right
Reverse: INVICTO IMP TROPAE. Central trophy consisting of helmet, cuirass, spears, and shields surrounded by arms at base. What is the rarity of the coin?

OCRE has mis-attributed the BM example as it is an AVG II C obverse. It is quite a scarce type.

The type starts in A.D. 193 in the AVG issue

S.-Severus-Invicto-Imp-Tropae-Ric-IV-391

and also occurs with TROPAEA II

S.-Severus-Invicto-Imp-Tropae-Ric-IV-391

The type occurs for the II CO type

S.-Severus-Invicto-Imp-Tropae-Ric-IV-391

There are other variations known for the COS II issue

such as INVICTO IMP TROPA..

S.-Severus-Invicto-Imp-Tropae-Ric-IV-391

I don't have one that matches the normal COS II version like yours.
