This coin would probably grade MS-62 but there appears to be some sort of damage at the bottom of the bell. Because of the damage I think the grade will drop to AU-58.

MS63, the bottom of the bell is just strike weakness and the numerous small ticks around the ear and hairline are also attributable to strike weakness. I suspect those marks are not from banging around with other coins, I think they were on the planchet before striking. Most blank planchets look pretty beat up but the marks are obliterated when a coin is fully struck. If the coin is weakly struck, you can see these latent marks and I suspect that is the source because the fields are actually very clean.

Overall, a nice key Franklin

I would agree with Biokemist that it is Mint State but I would go a bit lower -- MS62. A lot of dings and splotchy mark on the "M" on the reverse would keep it below 63. Still a nice coin.

Another agreement with biokemist, the rest of the coin is too nice and nearly hit-free. The obv marks and bell area are due to strike weakness. It's gotta me MS IMO.

I thought it was an ms coin when I was looking at it in the coin shop and I picked it up for an unbelievable price of $11.00 so I have to take it
