If a coin has hairlines, does the automatically mean that it has been cleaned? One of the coins I have is an UNC Morgan, that is very very sharp, but has some hairlines on the face. I find it hard to believe such a great looking coin has been cleaned... it still has the original luster (or atleast I believe it is original... it does the "cartwheel" effect. Opinions?
The hairlines are not harsh and can only be seen under my 16x glass.
This is another case that pictures would help quite a bit. Those lines could be from rubbing against other coins or from having just the design cleaned or polished. There is no way to say without seeing pictures.
I can show ya what a cleaned coin does look like, this is a 1882 o/s that is realy sickening that someone decided to clean it because other than that it is a beautiful coin anyway here is the pic
It may not have been cleaned. It may have just been wiped.
There's no way to know for sure without seeing the coin, observing its luster and checking on the hairlines -- how consistently do they flow in one direction, how much of the coin do they cover, et cetera.
There is no consistency to them, they go in different directions, some go north, some go south. That was a joke. ha. I will try to post pics when I can.
