In addition to the Type Set and Complete Set boards, Wayte Raymond also produced mini-sets of boards for the multi-year coin programs of the series. Presented here are the two boards for the 1926-39 Oregon Trail Memorial half dollars (14 coins in total, 8 in Board 1 and 6 in Board 2). The Stock Numbers for the two boards in the set are: 389A and 389B.
US Commemorative Half Dollars: Oregon Trail Memorial Set, Board 1 / 389A
The Oregon Trail Memorial series of coins had the most uneven issue schedule of all the multi-year programs of the classic era. As a result, the first board of the Set (389A) is the epitome of stop-and-start. It covers the 1926 (P-S) issues, the 1928 (P) coin, the 1933-D and 1934-D coins. the 1936 (P-S) issues and the 1937-D half dollar.
US Commemorative Half Dollars: Oregon Trail Memorial Set, Board 2 / 389B
The second board of the Set (389B) includes just six openings with spaces for the program's 1938 (P-D-S) and 1939 (P-D-S) coins.
US Commemorative Half Dollars: Oregon Trail Memorial Set, Back of Board
On the back of each board, at its top, is printed "No. 389A Wayte Raymond Inc.--- N.Y. Made in U. S. A. Pat. No. 1,719,962."
(Note: The stock number listed here is used as an example - the number was unique to each board in the mini-set.)For more on the coins included on this these boards, along with other of my posts on commemorative coins and medals, have a look at:
