I bought a gold coin a few days ago. it is so called 4 ducat which represents Austro Hungarian emperor Franz Joseph. Year on the reverse is 1915. As I understand all coins minted (Munze Osterreich) after 1915 until today have that year. When I compared my coin with images on the internet I noticed it is not completely identical. He looks older on my coin. Forehead and nose seems to differ slightly. On my coin forehead is high and partly even concave. On internet images forehead is convex. Is this a regular coin? Were there varieties in restrikes in years after 1915? Sorry for the photo, I did not have scanner, I photographed the coin on my window, so it looks brownish but in reality color is normal gold

Hi harryhaller24 and

Are you able also post a photo showing the reverse of your coin and also do you have a link for the coin that you showed as a comparison? Thanks

Forgot to ask ... how do the dimensions of your coin compare with those given on Numista? https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces15156.html

Here is the reverse. I didn't have a proper tool for measurement but it seems that diameter is right (40 mm). Images for comparison are from muenzeosterreich (producer). BTW in their specifications diameter is 39,5 mm. Thickness is difficult to measure without proper tool. I bought the coin in the jewelry shop, I even asked them whether it was real gold and purity (98,6%) and they said they had checked and yes. Now when I watch closely I notice difference in the shape of the lion/best in the shield

I agree with your assessment that you do not have an "official" restrike. I also could not find an exact match to your coin. On the other hand, it is much better than this "jeweller's copy": https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotv...2cd0d68e5285

I don't know anything about the numismatic market where you live, but buying expensive coins from a jeweller seems a bit risky.
