I would like to list my 2020 Quarter on the Bay that is MS66. I'm new and have never listed a graded coin before and want to make sure I'm doing things right as far as my listing is concerned. It has to be circulated as I'm not the original owner correct? But when I look at others on the Bay they all say 'uncirculated.' Am I missing something here? Basically I'm trying to make sure I'm doing things correctly. Would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

If they label it as MS60 or higher, its uncirculated. The MS is "Mint State" or uncirculated. Hence the AU 50-58 are "almost uncirculated." Of course, anything XF45 and under us also circulated.

If NGC says MS-66 then it's definitely "uncicrulated".

Thank you, thank you Collects. So it's basically a generic term. What really threw me for a loop was about a week ago I contacted a seller because they listed their coin as 'uncirculated'. They said it was uncirculated because they came direct from the Mint. So that is what really messed me up since I wasn't the original owner. Again, thank you for clearing this up for me.

you don't have to be so technical about how you list an NGC MS-66 coin . You are not going against any e-bay rules , just price accordingly and post good photos of obverse and reverse of the slab showing all information from NGC .

Thanks T. What I have gathered is that the coin and grade should speak for itself, granted I took half-way decent pics, (which is questionable).

There will always be a theoretical debate that says once a coin leaves the mint, it is "circulated" regardless of the technical grade. But for grading and collecting purposes, it considered uncirculated in MS60+ grades because there is no rub on the coin from usage, pockets, etc.

Now an MS60 might still be beat up with bag marks and ugly toning and be very unappealing, but since it has no technical wearing down from usage, it still gets an MS60 and is deemed "uncirculated". In cases like these, savvy collectors have learned that an AU58 with awesome eye appeal may be a much better option than an MS60-62. I have some beautiful buffalos in AU55-58 that I think are better than the majority of the MS60-62 buffalos I see on the market, and I gladly added them at a discount. Always let the coin speak for itself, or as we say often here, buy the coin and not the label.

Collect, you talk about 25 years ago debate. an mint state is a coins which to not was manipulate by others then the mint (include the cello machine, roll machine or slabbing). The marks from circulate or mint are different and could be not confound. All the coins live the Mint, so by this old rhetoric theory, mean no coin is Mint state.

In order to understand the grading of the coins is also to look of the year of production. Just to thing; Morgan's, all was in bags ship, so if we look at this old mentality no one will be mint, and this do not keep with the reality.

We have today three different mentalities: 1. Dealer and 2. Collectors and also 3. Opportunity buyers and sellers.
