I tried to find an on-line source for US commemoratives that would provide photos for each grade level 3 to 70. At least from my attempts this type of guide apparently does not exist on-line: something similar to PhotoGrade for US coins.

I am trying to grade a 90% silver 1936 Gettysburg 50C.

Any help locating this would be great.

I'm not sure things have changed much since I wrote this post back in 2012: US Commemorative Grading Guides. (I realize it's an old post, but the US commemorative market is not exactly a leading segment of the overall US coin market and doesn't draw the level of attention that other areas do.)

Several books are available, however, to help you identify the major points of wear (though maybe not pinpoint a specific numerical grade).

I'm curious to see if anyone has identified an up-to-date, online resource that answers your needs! I'd like to learn about it!

It will take a bit of time and clicking/tapping, but PCGS CoinFacts does provide access to images of a range of graded examples of US commemorative coins. Maybe the images would help you.

You could always post images here - I'm sure lots of folks will happily offer their assessment.

I'm not aware of an online reference that provides commemorative issue grading photos. Especially in the range AG03 to MS70 that you mention.

In fact, I'm quite confident that coins in that complete grade range do not even exist for practically all commemorative issues, classic or modern.

That said - I would welcome someone directing us to any on-line commemorative grading source.

I concur with commems input - post accurate photos here and there are several members who would provide grade opinions.

Would it be a correct assumption that Heritage would provide the best corresponding prices for MS-type grades for sold items etc.?

Probably, but the market has risen rapidly for better material in the past 2 years so you need to be careful in your comparisons.

I am a World collector generally, but I do have about a dozen or so commemorative Half Dollars.
The short cut for me (not being a specialist US commemorative collector) is use grading experience gained from numismatics generally over 40 + years.
This is what dealers have to do, when buying for their inventory.

Overall, what I am trying to say is that you must learn to grade for yourself, and if you are a collector and not a dealer, you have the advantage of spending time researching before you buy.
That way, you increase your chances of buying well.

Specifically,
that is my way of getting around the problem of not having access to a facility like Photograde, as applied to US commemorative Half Dollars

This would NOT be a correct assumption. While that data is good, it's limited to coins only sold via Heritage. A much better source would be the free Auction Prices Realized at the PCGS website. That's because it includes all of the data from coins sold at Heritage, and also includes coins sold by Stacks, Legend, DLRC, and Goldberg's. They include coins graded by PCGS and NGC.

However, the PCGS site is not provided auction data sold by Great Collections. Since they sell thousands of coins every week, including those in lower grades, the GC auction prices realized should also be checked.
