to the CCF and looks like either paint or mercury rubbed.

Agree, some sort of plating or the like.

To my eye, coin pictures appears to have been rubbed with mercury.
It it had been struck on a nickel planchet. it would have weighed exactly the same as a Nickel.

Can we can see the Reverse and the side of the coin? Also Diameter and the weight?
