2008 20th Anniversary Silver Maple Leaf
A quick follow-up to my 2001-2007 Coloured Silver Maple Leaf (SML) thread in which I mentioned the 2008 SML...The 2008 20th Anniversary Silver Maple Leaf coin was issued to mark 20 years since the launch of Canada's silver Maple Leaf bullion program in 1988; the gold Maple Leaf program was launched first, in 1979. The collector coin went on sale late in 2008 (November), but proved immediately popular.
Denomination $5.00
Obverse Design Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
Obverse Designer Arnold Machin
Reverse Design A single maple leaf tilted to the right, selectively gold-plated.
Reverse Designer Mint staff
Weight 31.39 grams (0.9999 fine silver + gold plating)
Diameter 38.0 millimeters
Finish Bullion (lined fields, brilliant devices) - Note: the appearance of the finish is exaggerated/less attractive in my scanned images!
Mintage Limit 10,000
Coins Sold 9,998
Issue Price $74.95
NumisNote Carries the dual dates of 1988-2008 for the anniversary; the fairly low maximum mintage of 10,000 coins resulted in a sell-out.
