I would like to know if this Peace dollar is damaged or if it's an error. I hope the pictures are enough to tell.

"Lamination errors are planchet errors in which the surface of a coin cracks and flakes. It is generally believed that lamination errors are caused by contaminants in the alloy that cause the metal to separate along the horizontal plane. Lamination errors can develop before or after the strike." (Error-ref.com)
So that break close to the R of the DOLLAR is not considered a lamination error? How could it get damaged like that? Can heat damage the coin like this?

Looks like a scrape to me. Just PMD IMO although there is a minor collar clash going on too.

It is a large scratch. There is displaced metal that is on either side of the cavity. A lamination issue would not have this.
