I called APMEX (a company I really like) to get some information that I will share because I think it might be of interest. Something I never see. Namely, what is their BUY pricing for some common gold bullion coins. At the time I called spot gold was trading at $1,837.08. APMEX was selling one ounce American Eagles and Buffaloes for $1,957.09 and buying them for $1,844.60. Brittania and Philharmonics were selling for $1,922.49 and they were buying them $1,837.60. Seems if you're purely interested in acquiring gold the Brittanias and Philharmonics are a slightly better buy.

APMEX has never been particularly known for value.

I've bought some coins from APMEX but IMO they can be higher on their prices. While it's more convenient to buy mostly from just one dealer, I buy bullion from SD Bullion, Bullion Exchanges, Hero Bullion, Liberty Coin and others who can have cheaper prices for what I purchase. I don't know of a specific dealer that regularly has lower prices than all the others. It's smart to compare shop well known established dealers and buy when they have sales. I do not buy from individual sellers on Facebook, etc. where they may be selling fakes. My LCS often beats online dealers for junk silver pricing.

Here are a couple dealers that post some of their buyback prices:

JM Bullion lists their buy prices for most items on their website. You can always check there for price comparison.

I like buying from Liberty. Price is competitive, service has been great, they are close so shipping is quick and hopefully less risky. You can tell that their shipping methods have been optimized to prevent losses.

Just stick to the big guys and it is pretty easy to compare prices.

For example, with spot today at 1836, it looks like the premium has settled down a little bit to +125 for gold buffalo, so about 1960. For a while premiums for 1 oz were +150.
