I would say it depends on the type. Dollars vs. Cents vs. etc. Wait a minute...my wife says I have no sense, hoarding all these coins.

I chose the minimum amount. Because, really you could have a "small" hoard, a "medium" size hoard, or a "large" hoard. A fat duck....a skinny duck.....a lame duck.....a flying duck....a sitting duck......you still have a duck !.....

By Saps Definition I am a hoarder but my Hoard will eventually turn into a collection as I get round to cataloging them.. Assuming my hoard does not expand faster then it shrinks...:-)

I think that the word 'hoard' (used in regard to coins) can really only be applied to large accumulations of common circulated coins, so "1,000+" is appropriate for that definition....

hoard (plural hoards)
A hidden, secret supply or fund.
According to wiktionary.com a hoard isn't about numbers at all!

Assuming a hoard is larger than a load and a load is larger than a heap and your standard heap is larger than a pile a hoard has to be the number in the pile to the 4th power. Being Canadian this equation is expressed as metric, please convert accordingly.

According tho the American Heritage Dictionary: Quote: A hidden fund or supply stored for future use; a cache Assuming that "future use" is putting them into flips or books, I would say any quantity of coins is a hoard until you give them individual attention. (Just like SAP said so well, very early on! )

I don't keep any coin that I already have one of. More than one of the exact same coin (date and mintmark) is a hoard to me.

I like the way MrCanada thinks. Keep it simple and don't try to complicate the answer.
The answer depends on the denomination of the coins being hoarded. The lower the value of the coin, the more you need to determine that it is a hoard.

I voted 200+. Horde is not a noun it is an adjective. I mean really you have maybe 25 pairs(all different types) of sockes that isn't a horde. If you make them one they are a horde if make them many they are an 'un-horde. I toataly agree with Sap.
