could be to a partial Grease Filled Die (the letter in this case) the devices are tapered (thinner at the top - or if talking about the die deeper in the die, if this gets a little grease then only the shallow, wider portion will be struck to the planchet.
If better close ups are needed I'll bring the camera down to the sunlight here's an example shown via loupe and phone with sunlight. Only could find 2 of them whatever they are
Just a normal coin with some grease. The newer pictures (thank you for posting them) have not changed my opinion on this coin. Still think it could be a partial filled die.
