Super cool! I didn't know about this variety. It seems this variety carries a notable premium, but nothing exuberant. I will keep my eye out for these, thanks for sharing

Thanks jacrispies! The history of these Stone Mountain Comm in whole including the counterstamped ones and the whole history of these is very interesting story! Well worth the read! I think 5million or so were allotted, 2 million or so were minted with 1 million later melted, roughly. I'm not sure how many were the FS-101, I dont think super rare, but I was glad to find it! PCGS Coin facts has all the varieties! Interesting story about this one!

Nice catch. I like these too. Found an ebay seller with about six of these [FS-101, in BU] not long ago asking $85/each, but never pulled the trigger: Gone now. BTW: That die scratch is through R E Lee's hat. Stonewall is not wearing a hat. I've seen [and might have] a coin from another die with a similar scratch through the hat so you do have to pay attention that it is the correct scratch.

Thanks CentSation I did type it wrong! This one is BU it is very bright so I filtered the light. It has a few dings, a few of the 35 reverse stars are very hard to see but still a decent strike I think. There is also a die scratch between Stonewall, the General facing the viewer and his horse that is pretty specific. The site I shared the link to shows all the different lengths of the die scratches and locations, I think there are several. Thanks for checking it out. I will revise my post on the General, Thanks!

Thanks for posting - always nice to have a good look at a US commemorative coin variety.. The FS-101 variety of the Stone Mountain half dollar has been known for a long time and is among the most common varieties found within the classic-era commemorative series.
I've always associated FS-101 with the doubling on "STONE MOUNTAIN" and "1925" on the obverse. There are lots of FS-101 coins out there, the trick is finding one with strong doubling on the inscriptions. I've seen many Stone Mountain half dollars get the FS-101 designation with only minor doubling. IMO, a 20x coin glass shouldn't be needed to see the doubling!

Thanks commems, I have enjoyed learning about this one and have started researching other ones. I saw the die crack and could see the doubling in the sellers pictures and it very easy to see on this one! I think a few devices on the reverse are doubled as well but minor. Thanks for checking it out!
