I personally don't think this is an overdate. There is a scratch in the lower loop of the '8' that makes it look like one. But if you compare a genuine 1857 halfpenny, you'll see that the '7' is quite broad and quite a distinctive shape, so I would expect the top of the '8' to be broader and more distorted: This is just my opinion - I may well be wrong! Other CCF members will be happy to advise!
