Replating makes it pretty much worthless to a collector as it is considered damage. Report this Post to the Staff

Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 07/21/2022 5:58 pm Muncie. This coin is steel cent as all of the 43s were. The U.S. needed copper during the war so they made cents out of steel. They didn't last long, they would rust quickly. People didn't want to carry a rusty coin around, so they didn't use them. Someone came up with the idea of coating them so they wouldn't rust. You could send them 100 cents, they would reprocess them [replate] them and send you back 50 cents. Making 50%. Reprocessed coins have no numismatic value. Just a Wheat cent now. Report this Post to the Staff
