Ok I was detecting in my yard and remember now I'm in a pretty big city. I found a bullet cartridge that was not fired. But the end was broken off so all I got was about half the shell and the firing pin. The firing pin was not struck at all so I know it wasnt fired. But I was wondering how would I know if it was from the civil war? The war did have its appearance here and did quite a bit of damage so I think it might be. The shell says around the pin... U.S.C Co. 18
the pin strangely sticks out farther than the rest of the bullet I'm not sure if thats how they did it back then or not but I know its not how bullets are made nowadays. it does not say a millimeter or calibur nothing like that so please help.

Thanks alot. Now I know it was made during WWI and it was an armor piercing bullet. Thats awesome maybe ill get lucky and find some whole bullets. I might have to check my neighbors yard to tho if shell let me lol.

And yea your definitely right I am having fun with it. Last time I got to use it was at my gmas and the only thing I found in the yard there was old tools and wire... Country house so it had it all but the goodies lol. I'm hoping I can find me some more silver. I remember when I found the 1908 quarter my heart did a flip so I'm waitin and hopin lol. so far the best ive found is the bullet a bent Wheat cent and my metal eagle emblem I'm tryin to figure out what is
