So I have noticed on a couple of my Austrian coins from the 1800s they have noticed that the reverse and obverse are slightly missaligned. The two coins I have that I have noticed it are over 30 years apart from each other and different denomination. I have also noticed it on some coins for sale online. I was curious if this was just a quality control issue that was common, or if this was done on purpose for some reason.

I'm not seeing any misaligned dies here. I am seeing coins that aren't aligned in their 2x2 properly. Perhaps you're just not used to the "right way up" these portraits are supposed to be?

That first coin, for example, the "M" mintmark is supposed to be right at the 6 o'clock position, and the tips of the first "F" and final "V" should line up. But in this pic it's out by about 10 degrees - which is about the same as the reverse pic.

So, more like this:

That is very possible I am just not use to them. It also would explain why I thought it happened over so many years and coins. Thank you very much.
That is going to bug me for a long time as I don't feel like changing the 2x2 as the coin shop put some nice labels on which I don't feel like replacing.
