Can anyone tell me what this defect is on this half-cent? (apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum, but wasn't sure with it being a U.S. printed territory.) It appears to be the same material as the coin, but it's like a growth off of it, and the rest appears to be perfectly proportioned, which doesn't suggest any was melted away from the original coin to make this. Thank you!

The photos are not the best but it seems that someone hit it with some copper brazing wire a while ago. I'm calling PMD

Perhaps a blob of copper-colored solder? Might have served as cufflink or the like at some point.

Yeah I thought it was a PMD at first but on closer inspection (and yes sorry for the poor picture quality, I'm new to this!) it looks to have a seamless finish that connects to the coin's face. It's a puzzler.

I see a U shaped crossbar soldered to the back of the coin. Could've been used as a button or as Coinfrog said, a cufflink.

Pictures aren't the greatest quality, so that is my best guess.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Brazing wire is like solder but only works at a much higher temperature than traditional solder. It is made of brass/copper and can more easily appear seamless due to the higher heat/Melting in more properly.

If it is raised, it can't be an error.
Has to be damage of some sort, no matter how it was done.

Either a button or a cuff link with the loop removed.
