Possibly King John, the coin is worn so the information is difficult to ascertain. The reverse is short cross voided with four pearls. Placing it between Henry 2nd (1158-89) to Henry 3rd (1216-72), could be Richard 1st or John aswell. I haven't managed to research this one as much so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The obverse looks to at least have 2 pearls in the crown. I'll have to look properly later and describe what I can see better as the pictures don't show all the details.
Yes you'll need much sharper images, and cropped to the size of the coin. Even then, there's not much on it, and identification relies heavily on details. I don't think you'll be able to identify it.
The reverse would give mint and moneyer in the legend, but there are so many, it helps to have as many letters as possible. I can't see any at all.
The obverse legend is unlikely to be relevant, as they were all 'Henricus Rex', but the shape of the letters can help. Especially R, but that might be just off the coin.
The king's hair, eyes and beard can tell you who it might be, but detail is important. I can't see the hair, which is possibly most important. The crown has 5 pellets, but most do. From the size of the pellets I would say it's probably a later coin i.e. John or Henry III.
Thank you, I'll have to have a closer look with a magnifying glass. Can definitely see more than the picture shows. Hoping to learn more about my collection. It's absolutely fascinating holding something hundreds of years old. I wonder how many lives those coins have passed through and what those people were up to.
