1955 was very non descript in New Zealand too. Still no Florins or Halfcrowns and the Halfpenny of this year is scarce with just 200k issued (Usually 1 - 3 million per year).

Hence why my example is not A1 quality

There is one minor variety - the vampire bite 3d coin

There are 2 raised dots on the Queen's neck that make it look like a vampire's bite. the variety is recently recognised and quite scarce.

The other thing about 1955 coins, is they are hard to find in good condition and the shilling in particular is hard to find above VF. It was also the last year of the strapless variety of portrait.

Australia in 1955 had no Florin issued after a double issue in 1954.

1955 Is a sparse year for me. It is really just before things get interesting in my collection.

Cyprus adopted a new currency abandoning the old Turkish standard one of 40 para = 1 piastre and 180 piastres = 1 Lira. They now had a decimal Lira of 1000 mil/100 cents = 1 Lira.
Here are the bronze 5 mils and Cupronickel 50 mils coins. 50 mils was equivalent to a shilling or the old 9 Piastres. This currency survived until the 2000s, although the mils were dropped by the 1980s.

Eastern Caribbean states new coinage too, which featured this penny sized 2 cent coin.

Tdziemia - welcome here finally! Already anticipating 16th century coins off you.

Yes the shillings are prolific and you can look forward to one every year they made them in OZ off me!

I think for all of us now too, by 1955 most of the developing world is back to being colonies so the pool of coin issuing entities and types is declining.
