Now the Dorado show is finished, my turn.

1940 was an amazing year in New Zealand as it was our centenary and we got 3 new coins, a Halfpenny and Penny which became a regular coin (We had used British and Australian pennies and halfpence prior - the farthing went the way of history here).

3d - high EF (Not going with usual shots as so much of my 1940 was upgraded last year.

1940 Florin

The highlight was the centenary Halfcrown showing a Maori wahine (Woman) with her hands outstretched over a pa and modern (Read 1930s Art Deco style) city. This is a beautiful piece and rapidly souvenired.


The coin was never rare because most were kept aside and survive in VF or better condition compared to Good - Fine for most halfcrowns of this era.


Also added was the halfpenny showing a Maori "Hei tiki" ornament. Both bronze coins dated 1940 arrived in November 1939 and became regular pieces.
