And it's been nice to see some German States coins the last few years.

Here is another one, with a twist.
Grand Duchy of Posen (part of the Prussian partition of Poland) 1 Groschen, Breslau/Wroclaw mint:

@paralyse, check the date on that 10 kopeck coin from yesterday. The insription on the 2 x 2 might be off by a year (or it's just my eyes ... or you were just anticipating today).

Duchy of Warsaw, 1/4 thaler 1814.
Napleon attempted to revive the state of Poland in 1807, cobbling together parts that had been dismantled and absorbed by Austria, Prussia and Russia in the late 18th century partitions, as the Duchy of Warsaw. Napoleon installed the King of Saxony as the duke, harkening back to the first half of the 18th century when the Elector of Saxony also ruled as King of Poland.
This state was short-lived, and was re-divided after Napoleon was defeated in this part of Europe. Coins of several denominations were struck 1810-1814 (so we will se most of 'em over the next few days).

France 1814, 20 francs, Louis XVIII, Paris (A).

Neither the king nor the artist Tiolier were particularly happy with this not too well executed portrait, made in all haste while the king was traveling to Paris to ascend the throne after Napoleon's abdication. A new and better portrait was made in 1816, after Napoleon's second abdication.

The coins always get more interesting the further we go!

An 1814 1/4 Kreuzer from Nassau (German States), struck off center



An 1814 French medal commemorating Frederick William III of Prussia's visit to the Paris Mint - the rough area on the obverse is a die defect (rust pit/die failure) present on all known examples of this issue, including a few rare strikes in silver instead of bronze.
