Rookie Mistake.
Hi, I have a 1944 Walking Liberty half dollar with Mint Mark issue. It looks like an S mint mark but I'm not sure. It looks like the S was struck on top of something else but I can't tell what the something else is. Any help would be appreciated as I am very new at coin collecting. We got the coins from my wife's mother. We have over 50 lbs of junk silver and are just now going thru them to see if we have any worth grading. Thanks, Don.

It could be a re-punched mintmark or some die chipping at the mintmark...

It looks to me like it may be damage.
Something has hit it displacing some of the metal.

To CCF , can you post photos of full coin front and back . Looks like Damage after it left the mint , full pics will tell more .
