This is one issue that has eluded me for a very long time. Each time whenever it is listed, I am denied the ownership by higher bids. This time around, I made up my mind to "go for it".

Modus operandi was one of registering an early low bid and then Kapow a high snipe set to go off 3 seconds from the end.

Having studied past auctions that this issue has fetched ( from lows of $200.00 to highs of $400+) and after discussions with PNC_King, we both felt that to secure this issue I will have to put up a bid of at least $400.00.

With that in mind, an inital bid of $10.00 was submittted and a snipe of $402.99 was set before going to work this morning.

On returning home this evening, this auction ended at $86.00 and I am NOT the winner !!!!. This is the lowest price that I have seen this issue sell for.

The snipe prog that have served me so well in the past did not submit my bid this time......

This is the auction

Besides ranting (which I feel a lot better now)I have posted this for members who use automated sniping progs not to trust those progs completely.

I saw that auction. I wondered why you put in a bid of $10. Not your style at all. I thought you must of forgot about the auction. DOH!

Yeah matey...it is not my style at all.....LOL...normally I never bid until the end, but now and then I do submit in an early bid just to ferret out who else is interested in the auction. Looks like the laugh this time is on me.

Barry....the prog I use is auctionsniper...overall an excellent prog that has served me well except this time....

Don't feel bad Lim
I did not even see this auction or I would have been bidding against you.
I can't beleive the price it went for.

As for sniping programmes I was informed by my snipe provider, that anything less than 5 seconds was risky in that it takes time 1-3 secs for the snipe to register.
I have been fairly successful with 5 sec snipes.
I use Auctionsniper.com

I think the seller has done himself a disservice by his listing. He spelt "Yarralumla" as Yarralumba. This means it will not show if someone did a search. Also he used the words "coin and state flowers" instead of PNC. This would explain why there were hardly any bids.

Once again, lesson to be learnt by new sellers is the importance of the title in your listings....

Lim, I feel your pain. My sniper program stopped working for me when I installed Norton 2006 and I lost some really good deals the night I found out it wasn't working (similar in savings to the one you posted).

I also know how you feel.

Sorry to hear your bad news, I do not use a program at all, I snipe myself at the last minute.

"Snipe"

what a nice word:)
I usually do that myself here, set my alarm clock to 15 minutes before the bid ends. Then get in front of the computer.

If I won't be able to access to the internet at that time, I set a top value about 50 Kr over my estimations, since there are very few knowledged "rivals" here this method usually works.
The rare situations that I can not get the item are when the winner buys at an overprice.

I didn't even know that there were sniping programs out there. Nothing beats that adrenalin rush at the end when you put your bid in and you win or lose. [:p]

Yeah, I like the rush too!!! I usually try to place my last bid with about 15 seconds left. Win some and lose some but one thing is for certain, if I don't win I make someone else pay dearly!!!

Knights don't leave without a hard battle, right Terry:)

I first heard of snipe programs in this topic. I actually haven't heard of the term "snipe".

G'day Lim, I know the feeling only too well, to be "piped-at-the-post" Then again, I do not have to pay for it, until the next one comes along.
