The Charlton Catalogue is the Canadian equivalent (at least in my opinion).

I used to prefer Haxby and Willey's Coins of Canada, but the standard is now the Charlton guide.

Charlton has two types of books in print:
1) "Charlton Standard Catalogue" price listings of dealers will charge for coins.
2) "Standard Coin Guide" price listings of what prices dealers pay for coins.

The first book goes into coin details and retails typically for $20.00, the second book just has dealer price offerings and sells typically for $8.00

I use both charlton and haxby actually. both seem to have a lot of information on the coins so I figured there was no way I could pick between the 2 of them.

ooh I don't think they would have a free download anywhere. The company would never make any money if they gave the information away for free. It is possible but I have never seen it anywhere. The books really aren't all that expensive and you can buy one for less than $30.00

I would get the catalogue... the guide is mainly lists of numbers. The catalogue has much more info and pictures.

Get a used one from ebay or Amazon or such. If it's a year or two old it is hardly out of date and will be cheaper. Surely a well stocked US bookstore or coin shop would have new copies... or be able to order you a copy. I have the 2005 cataloge... It is well worn and definitely worth the price. I'm not interested in new circulating coinage, and the new collector stuff is on the Mint's website, so I don't even think of getting a new copy.

Haxby/Willey has coins, tokens, and bills in one volume, but they doi not have the information that is in the Charlton catalogues (things like specific replacement bills.) They do list some information not in Charlton, I believe. I use and like both.
