It's not in great shape, but found this one as I have been going through old silver...happy to have found it.
The date is hard to read, but under a loupe it is clear enough. Can anyone explain why there are little notches on the edge? Just wondering why someone would do that.

Nice find even in that condition.
Not sure about the notches. Maybe they were made for holding the quarter on something.

Post mint damage , looks like little file marks .
Most likely ex jewellery .
This date is notoriously tough to acquire in
problem free condition , right there with the
1889 , 1891 .

The notches could be someone stealing some silver off of it or just damage.
