This coin appears to be one that was pulled and saved from the 1,000 struck with the intent to circulate. Usually when you pull a coin like this to save, you choose an attractive early strike, not the last one that comes off the press,
From the coin's surfaces, it looks like the die surfaces were specially treated and do not look like regular business strike die surfaces. It makes sense as it was the return to silver cartwheel production after 32 years and the Mint probably wanted to put its best foot forward.
If it were today's Mint, you would probably have 17 different coin surface treatment combinations to satisfy collector demand. I make fun of them, but they are really more responsive to collector demand than they have ever been in the past.

Thanks to all for your kind words. Collecting coins would not be as much fun if it weren't for all of us who love coin collecting going on this ride together. In response to fenton's tongue-in-cheek post, I don't know if you could fool any dealers if you walked in with this gold label slab and pretended you didn't know what it was. This is the age of the internet after all.  I posted the link to the cert in the original post, but I think this image of the coin in the special gold label slab in good lighting was worth seeing. I think the gold label was a nod to Bass' spectacular U.S. gold coin collection. Early gold coin variety attribution often uses the Bass-Dannreuther reference, so this collection is important in that regard, but the label still looks good on a silver coin. LOL, what a great catch! I guess I have a major error label/slab. Wonder what that is worth. Never gonna get this corrected and allow PCGS to live this down. Hahaha...

This coin is the plate coin for the J-60 Original on PCGS Coinfacts: https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...iginal/11225According to that reference, PR64 is the highest grade given by PCGS & NGC for the 1836 struck originals. 15 coins sit atop the condition census at this grade.  There are a 2 gems struck of the original J-60, one 65 and one 66 - those had the medal alignment. CW did a nice writeup on the 1st Harry Bass sale which contained this coin. The highlight was a proof 1821 half eagle which brought almost $5 million. Thanks for your kind comments. I also wish I had had the opportunity to see Harry's collection at the ANA in person. Sadly I will only see most of them in images. I have a feeling that the Rockies also look spectacular from Colorado Springs. One day I'll get out there. Wow NS, just wow! I've been a reader on this forum for awhile and seen alot of your posts over the years and it is really impressing to see some of your latest additions to your collection! What is also pleasing to see is that even though you you've "stepped up your game" (understatement  ) you still buy coins the same way as some of us other collectors.
