DL20K has complained about one of his pictures suddenly changing to a different picture, in
this post. It's not the first time I've seen him (and others) complain about it happening to them, but it seems to happen to DL20K more than other folks.
I had a hunch, and just ran a simple test to see what would happen if you downloaded two pictures with the exact same filename to CCF (via the "add image" camera icon) on the same day. In
this test thread, the picture in my OP was originally my avatar coin, which I downloaded under the name "test.jpg". I then saved another file (the Australian round 50¢) with the name "test.jpg" too, and downloaded that. The first "test.jpg" appears to have been completely over-written and replaced by the second one.
The download page doesn't come up with any kind of warning or error that there's already a file with that name, and the old one will be deleted. It simply deletes it, and any thread with the old pic now shows the new one.
CCF-downloaded image files all have a date-stamp attached to the name. My older CCF downloaded images have, in addition to this date-stamp numbers, an additional set of numbers - they're either random, or the number of downloads that happened that day - presumably to prevent this exact sort of thing from occurring.
Is there any chance of modifying the forum code to either send up an error/warning message when a file is about to be replaced (eg. "Did you intend to delete the file xxxxx.jpg which has already been downloaded today? (y/n)"), or reinstate the additional time-stamp numbers to ensure all downloaded files are uniquely named?
