If a PCGS/NGC 1972 DDO cent just says "Doubled Die" on the holder, is it correct to assume it is a Type 1 DDO?

Assume nothing, check all three reference sites we all check for an attribution number. Even TPG's make mistakes.

There are numerous different varieties for the 1972 DDO so such a basic statement is not a definitive identification.

You need to identify the specific variety for yourself if the TPG holder does not include it.

Here's an image. From what I can tell it's type I. What do you think?

DDO-1, it's the strongest DDO for 1972.

If that is a type1,what does the other types look like?I think the word "type" is confusing. A DDO-001 and a DDO-002 makes more sense.

I agree about "type" being confusing in this instance.

Variety or Die pair are the usual reference.
