I have numerous coins graded by PCGS, but have never sent one down. I have a double eagle that I'd like to have slabbed by them. Looking for a few learned comments from folks who send south of the border routinely. Have you experienced any Customs related issues on the way back into Canada and if so how did you trouble shoot that, or is there a way to avoid it? Preferred method of sending; Canada Post, courier? Thx for the input.

You are much better off going to a major coin show, who there are 1-2 reps that you can drop the stuff off to for PCGS. I don't use or dally with cert'd coins, but I understand that the mailing, insurance and customs are sometimes very stiff.

This is just a gut feeling.
Use something like FedEx or UPS.
Or what's that international company (DLS?).

IMO USPS and Canada Post will just add another layer of bureaucracy to what will probably be a very annoying situation.
And PCGS, as good as they are, are VERY slow these days (I don't know why).
4+ months for one of my recent submissions.
Throw in your international transaction with Customs involved and it's anyone's guess how long it will take.

I strictly use FEDEX when sending coins to NGC / PCGS. Both companies have specific address' to send to when using fedex.
For customs I use a Harmonization tax code number (HS#) of 9705.00.00 and describe it as a collectable numismatic disc, not for sale, grading only. And for value I put $10.00.
I would never list the true market price of the coin or gold value.
The HS# for gold coins over 100 years of age is: 9705.31.0010 but keep the description the same, never use the word gold.
Hope this helps

Thx for that GMS5. I had contacted our LCS here in Winnipeg who on-line show as a PCGS agent, however they told me to send it myself.
