Monon Railroad 25 Year Service Medals

Yojoe1964 New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 11/20/2022 4:23 pm Has anyone seen or heard of these Monon 25 year service Medals? I am told they used the medals before going to the service pins. I believe the railroad was known as the C.I.L. at the time but had the nickname of Monon. The names on the back do match up with the worker logs I found on the Monon Historical site. At the time these medals were given it was known as the CIL railroad. The nickname at the time was The Monon. It was liked so much that they did change the name to the Monon Railroad before CSX bought them in 1971. I have not found any more information on these medals. I did talk with the owner of The Monon Connection which has a museum and showed him a picture of the medals. He was not aware of them. I connected someone from the Monon Historical Society and he has heard of the medals but had not seen one before. I had some contact with two of the sellers. One said he had found the medal at a railroad show several years ago and was selling off some of his collection. The other sold the medal on consignment. Someone had come into his shop and had found the medal in a jewelry box. That was all he knew. I figure it was a relative who had passed away recently. These are the only 3 I have seen to this point. I do search the web periodically to see if I came across any others. So far I have not found any mention of them. I have no idea what the value of them would be. Report this Post to the Staff
