People have photos and eyes to judge the coin from. They are capable of grading and my opinion should have no effect on their thoughts. Report this Post to the Staff

Whether you want to believe me or not, it is bad form to say what you think it grades before asking everyone else. Take your ball and go home because you have that choice, but there are unwritten rules here if you want more accurate results. OP is more than welcome to post what they think it will grade and then ask us if we agree or disagree with their assessment. That is how people learn and improve. I and many others here have done so on many occasions -- mainly to see if my own grade assessment of a new purchase matches what everyone else thinks. This helps me "fine tune" my grading skills -- if I think a coin looks like an AU53, but everyone in CCF tells me it's a VF35, or vice versa, then I can ask "why?" and learn what others may see that I have missed. I've only been a regular poster here for the last 8 years so I don't know how things worked before that, but it's been that way at least that long. If this had been a slabbed coin in the original post, I'd agree that posting what you think it graded may lead to bias, but this was not a slabbed coin. At a coin show, club or LCS no one is handing another dealer a coin and telling them what they think it grades first, that's basic principle. I know this because it is bad form and I've watched everyone wait and then proceed to talk about it. Take my advice and get upset, but it's known throughout our hobby this is not advised. As a courtesy, the OP typically does not do that. First of all, it is the OP's thread and not yours. He can post a GTG however he wants. He does not have to take suggestions from people. Whether or not it skews data is his problem and not yours. Second, many people here are not sufficient at determining strike weakness vs wear, so stating a grade can help guide people who are viewing the coin from only a few photos. No problem at all in giving your opinion on what you think the grade is. I like someone who steps up to the plate and gives their opinion on their coin rather than play Monday morning quarterback after the grade comes back from PCGS. Thank you for posting your coins.
