Many thanks for the info @sel_69l

I'm guessing, with the condition it's in, the grade wouldn't be very good?

@sel_69l or anyone else, please could you give me guidance on how I would be able to tell the difference between a long, short or medium tail? Many thanks in advance, Mark

My reference is
Coincraft's 1998 Standard Catalogue of
English & UK Coins 1066 to Date

I then compared the info I found there with Google Images:
1880 sovereign reverse

As an aside, I have found that Google Images (as relating to coins) is a very much under utilized numismatic research tool as used by CCF'ers.

Most excellent @sel_69l
Thank you so much for that, I've just ordered one of those books online.

I shall start using Google Images too. Many thanks again for that tip too....
