If metal was present around the date it could be considered Mechanical Doubling but that's not the case here. Even if it was the case Mechanical Doubling is looked at as a flaw by most collectors but I collect them! Mechanical Doubling goes as far back as the Flying Eagle cents. It is caused by the die machine parts shaking during a strike if you look hard enough you can find one in many dates. Report this Post to the Staff
