I found myself nodding in agreement with just carl's statements as I read them, although of course Congress is to fault for mandating certain types of coins. I've stated before that many current USA coins look as if they were designed by a committee rather than an artist and that when we have to go to past designs (most notably the standing Liberty half-dollar) for current, perhaps it's time to find new artists. That statement was a little too inclusive, perhaps, as both the Sacagawea dollar obverse and reverse designs are beautiful (how can you go wrong with kids and eagles?), and there have been other recent pleasing designs. However, some of the State Quarters have been ... um ... odd, and frankly, the presidential series' designs are obviously political and less than pleasing with their frontal-face designs.

Oh, and just carl - I can think of a few stars who would serve well as new models for Lady Liberty designs. I can see it now ... in a filmy costume, JLo strides away across a sunset landscape, looking provocatively over her shoulder with Angelina's head on her shoulders. Can you feel it?

At my local post office there is a sign saying that you can order stamps with your own face on them. I wonder what they would say if someone wanted their dog, cat, parrot, etc on a stamp?

Your own face on a stamp! I wonder how the Queen would feel about that?

I would love if we could do that, side profile, make it look as close to the normal British stamps as possible so that you only notice if you look closely. hee hee!
