This may be pointless but I am searching for folks who are collecting the really high grade 1937 PCGS graded specimens. There are a few very specific coins I'd like to find out there if I could, even if it's just to find out they definitely won't be on the market any time soon. If anyone knows anybody who has one or more of these coins or owns any themselves I'd really appreciate a PM! Here is my list:
1937 SP67 pennies: There are 2 matte and 1 mirror in this grade I'd like to find. 2 of the 3 used to be in the Beckman set until 2015.
1937 SP67+ matte nickels: There are 2 out there somewhere.
1937 SP67 mirror dime: One lonely one out there.
1937 SP68 matte dimes: 2 of these in the census
1937 SP68 matte quarters: Also 2 of these out there. One is a Pittman and would be of particular interest. It also used to be in the Beckman set.
Again if you have any of these or know anyone who does I would love to talk about them with any owner. It would be great to connect with others who love this set as much as I do! Please note this is not a post to buy anything, just looking to connect with others of like interests and get a better idea of where these coins reside. :)
My current full set of mirror and matte from penny to dollar is as follows for those interested:
Mirror (All Pittman) 66RD, 67, 66, 67, 67, 67 Matte (5c&10c Pittman) 66RD, 67, 67, 67, 67, 67
Thanks! G

Though I'm sure you've contacted him, stokrooky probably knows about the history of some of them. Did you read his book? https://canadiancoinnews.com/past-n...w-available/His book is now via the RCNA, of which he is an officer. Even though this is just on large cents, his research covered much more.

Okay going to try to get these to upload. I've struggled a bit with the change in methods. Lol. If I can get the mirror pics to upload they come from the previous owner who I assume got them done professionally. They are better than anything I've been able to come up with so far! Well fortunately for me they were already sized to be loaded in here! This set I will always keep together. If I ever sell it, it will be sold as a set, not broken up. I feel like these coins deserve to stay together even if I do ever find upgrades to any of them. I feel very fortunate to have acquired them. G

Oh and to be clear I have no intention of selling any of these! Lol. This is my favourite set of my entire collection. A bit of a labour of love for sure. Okay now I'll try to get all the matte ones uploaded. For those I'll use the trueviews since I have them for each. The grades don't show on these ones but as stated in the original post the penny is SP66RD and the rest are all SP67. The nickel and dime are Pittman coins. Okay that should do it. It should be noted that the Pittman matte finish silver specimens look a little different than normal matte specimens to me. Almost like they made some special ones that he got ahold of. To me they look more matte than normal matte specimens, but maybe that's just me. G

Fantastic! Do you think the grades would be any different with ICCS?

Thanks all! I'm very proud of this set so far. I'll still upgrade where I can, but it's getting a lot harder to find them!
I think ICCS and PCGS have similar grades once they get this high. It's possible ICCS could be a grade lower or higher on some, although they only rarely give out anything higher than 67 so higher on this group would be unlikely.
What each service looks at and cares about is a little different when they are grading the coins so you have to expect a little different results. I know when I send in ICCS coins to PCGS I expect results to be up to +/- 1 grade generally. Typically PCGS gives the same grade, or if it's a 67 in particular they will at times be one grade higher, I think because ICCS doesn't like giving 68's regardless of whether or not they are warranted. So overall I guess I would have to say ICCS tends to on average grade a bit lower than PCGS.
The mirrors being Pittman coins and knowing he mostly kept the best of everything, I feel confident they are reasonably graded. They are very nice looking in hand. I also appreciate that they are toned when so many coins these days are dipped in an effort to bring out cameo or whatever the dipper is looking for.

Something to keep in mind with the 1937 specimens. There were a LOT of matte specimen sets produced. Not nearly so many mirror sets, but even the number of just mirror sets exceeds the number of specimen sets produced for most years of George VI coinage. Within the matte sets though it's pretty easy and reasonably cheap to pick up SP66 examples, except for maybe pennies, which is a relatively high grade set once you put it all together. Mirror examples in higher grades are tougher to come by though. Start a nice matte set though! :)
