Seasons greetings.

This 1856 halfpenny was bought at auction as uncirculated, however, looking at others on the market, I think that might be a grade or so too high? Thoughts most welcome please.

No wear on the high point of the design, both sides.
There may? be a few very tiny nicks and short hairline scratches that would be mostly hidden under the rather nice, even patina.
Certainly, there has been no recent wear, because that would have shown up by cameo patina thinning on those high points.

There is a small dark flat patch on a high point of the drapery, just above the shield, but that could be due to a light strike, or a tiny bit of grease in the die.
Some tiny dents on Vikkie's neck, and a light scratch in the field under Her chin.

Nevertheless, one of the best I have seen.

I think that this coin was correctly graded as Uncirculated.

I don't like using Sheldon grading on British coins, but is this case, probably OK for
MS-63.

I also note some re cutting of the 'R' in 'GRATIA".

Thanks Sel, I feel more inclined now.

In hand she's really very pretty indeed. I noticed the R, but also noticed the 5 was a little less that sharp around the edges, particularly around the top and the right hand side.

I'll say MS-63BN (Sheldon). Most attractive.

Agree with others, certainly not MS70 , but I believe it
is MS low 60s. It is a darn beautiful coin though, nice purchase.
