Anybody know anything about these coins? Are they rare/common? Worth very much? I have the opportunity to buy this one, and I was wondering what it is worth.

Books provide a better more secure sense of value. Try looking at the Red Book. It provides great information for beginners and professionals and only costs about $12. It also helps make sure you are getting what you are paying for rather than just an appraisal.

Minted in Mexico City (the M with the o over it). Not a particularly valuable or rare coin. Krause lists it at $7 VG and $15 Fine. I think this might be a little low.

I'm not sure the RedBook covers this type of coin in any great detail and the world coin books for the 18th century can be pricey.

If you noticed the FM is upside down, but this is also how it should be for this date, while 1773 has the normal FM and the upside down FM.
